Marc van
Zandvoort,
PhD
Marc A.M.J. van Zandvoort obtained his PhD. at the University of Utrecht on a study of fluorescence spectroscopy of photosynthetic pigments in various polymer systems in 1994. From 1994-1996 he worked as a post-doc within the field of Monte Carlo simulations on fluorescent pigments in Liquid Crystalline systems. This work was carried out within the European Capital Mobility Program at the Dipartimento Chimica Fisica ed Inorganica (prof. C. Zannoni) at the University of Bologna. From 1996 -1998 he was post-doc at the Department of Molecular Biophysics of the University of Utrecht and was involved in research on the mechanism of muscle contraction. Within this position he obtained a fellowship for research at the Spectroscopy Laboratory of the University of Firenze (LENS). From November 1998 he works at the Department of Biophysics of the Maastricht University and has as main field of interest the adaptation of the extracellular matrix of cardiac tissue to dynamic mechanical load. These adaptations are studied both on tissue as on cellular level, applying various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques to both in vivo as in vitro systems. In october 1999 he switched to the field of microcirculation. His main job now is the development and application of new spectroscopic and microscopic techniques for intravital imaging.
